Safe Sleeping Tips

More than 4 million families welcome a new baby into their home every year.  Each of these new parents wants to make sure that their new little bundle of joy is safe.  By following these simple tips you can create a safe sleeping environment for your baby that will help to reduce the risk of suffocation, SIDS, and accidental deaths. 

  1. Always put your baby to sleep on her back.  Tummy and side positions should not be used. 
  2. Always put your baby to sleep in a crib that meets current safety standards. 
  3. Never share a sleeping surface with your baby.  This includes sofas, chairs, and adult beds.
  4. Take all loose items out of the sleeping area.  This includes stuffed toys, pillows, blankets, and bumpers.
  5. Try using a wearable blanket to keep your baby warm.
  6. Ensure that your baby isn't overheated.  The room temperature should be comfortable for an adult that is lighly clothed. 
  7. Offer your baby a pacifier.  It can help to reduce the risk of SIDS.
